Getting the balance just right for less frizz & more shine!
We worked very hard to get the pH of these shampoo bars just right!
A mildly acidic pH value (near 6.0) contracts and tightens the cuticle layer of the hair, and as a smoother surface reflects more light, making the hair shinier. A closed cuticle protects the layers of the hair shaft and locks in moisture, protecting the cortex and preventing hair breakage. If you colour your hair this will also help your hair hold the colour.
Strong acids with a very low pH will damage the hair and an alkaline pH value (above 7.0) softens the cuticle layer which means the scales expand outwards like a pinecone, leading to dull, rough, brittle hair. An Alkaline pH can also increase the electrical charge of each hair's surface increasing friction, cuticle damage and breakage - causing duller, weaker and frizzy hair.
An almost neutral pH of 6 like we achieved in our all-natural shampoo bars means less frizz, less breakage - and more shiny, strong, healthy hair!
No cider vinegar rinsing here folks - just shiny residue-free hair!
Many other shampoo bar brands have a soap base and recommend rinsing hair afterwards in cider vinegar to remove residues and repair cuticle damage. Some claim that this is necessary to repair hair damage caused previously by chemical based shampoos - but actually many other shampoo bars are too alkaline and the acidity of the cider vinegar is needed to help restore the pH balance of the hair ... and this is what repairs the cuticle damage caused by the shampoo bar.
We think it's better not to damage your hair in the first place - and we'd rather our hair smelled of vanilla than of vinegar!

Our shampoo bars contain Kawakawa to soothe sensitive skin and heal irritable scalps making them ideal for people with eczema or psoriasis. We also included flower extract from the gorgeous native shrub Kumárahou as it has natural cleansing properties.
