Kawakawa (Piper excelsum) is a native New Zealand plant and a taonga species central to rongoā Māori, traditional Māori plant medicine. It has been used for centuries to support skin health, and remains one of the most treasured plants in Aotearoa. We harvest kawakawa in line with traditional rongoā Māori techniques, during the full moon phase, rākaunui and rākau matohi, with karakia. We slow-infuse the oil over many weeks until it takes on the rich green hue and peppery scent of the kawakawa. This intentional, unhurried process is at the heart of everything we make.
