These bars are made with Kawakawa harvested according to prime days in the Maramataka - the Māori lunar calendar - when the essence of the plant is at its most potent.

Which cleansing product in the Frankie range is best for me?
Good question. We have several options in the range now and here's a summary of how and when to use them.
Kūmarahou + Cocoa Butter Facial Cleansing Bar. A gentle cleansing bar for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
Kawakawa Cleansing Bar with Kawakawa Chlorophyll. This bar offers a deep clean and maximises the anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties of Chlorophyll. Excellent for acne-prone or blemish prone skin and sensitive skin. Least hydrating cleanser in the range.
Gentle Oil Cleanser & Makeup Remover. Effortlessly removes makeup and sunscreen. A gentle cleansing oil free from emulsifiers and soaping agents. Oil cleansing is suitable for all skin types. Most hydrating cleanser in the Frankie range.
Double-cleansing with the Gentle Oil Cleanser/Makeup Remover and the Kūmarahou + Cocoa Butter Facial Cleansing Bar. This two-step process is for makeup days or to remove sunscreen. First use the oil cleanser to remove makeup by applying to dry skin, massaging and removing the excess with a warm, damp facecloth. Dry skin. Follow with the Kūmarahou + Cocoa Butter Facial Cleansing Bar.
I have sensitive skin. are the Facial cleansers ok for me?
Yes! All Frankie Apothecary skin care is designed to be gentle on sensitive skin.
The Kūmarahou + Cocoa Butter Facial Cleansing Bar has been formulated to be gentle and kind to your skin. With a pH of 5.5 it works with the skin's natural acid/alkali balance so it won't strip your skin of natural oils.
Our Gentle Oil Cleanser and the Kawakawa Cleansing Bar with Kawakawa Chlorophyll are also gentle and suitable for sensitive skin.
As with any new product, always patch test for 24 hours before use.
I have acne-prone skin what should I use?
You have a couple of great options!
We've had feedback from customers with acne-prone skin who have found the Kawakawa Cleansing Bar with Kawakawa Chlorophyll helpful. This bar offers a deep cleansing action for face and body and is suited to sensitive skin. Interestingly, chlorophyll has been shown to have anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties.
Our Gentle Oil Cleanser is also a good option for those with acne. Oil cleansing has been used for centuries and works on the basis that like attracts like with the oil cleanser dissolving oil in the skin and impurities, helping to flush the skin.
Oil cleansing is popular amongst many people with acne-prone skin. It's always a good idea to patch test first for 24 hours.
Keep in mind, oil cleansing is quite different from regular cleansers and will help dissolve trapped sebum in the skin. This can cause an initial 'purge' period as clogged pores are cleared and debris is released. This can mean skin gets worse before getting better and this period can last from 2 to 4 days, up to a couple of weeks. This is a normal sign that your skin is restoring its balance.

I've been purchasing Frankie for the past few years... the kawakawa balm, oil and soap. I sent it as gifts to my hubby's family in the UK and they love it. It resolved his nephew's eczema flare ups to their amazement!
I recently had a baby. My hubby has eczema so I knew we'd only be using Frankie skin care on him. We use the soap and after each bath or shower we massage him head to toe in kawakawa oil. Everyone comments on how clear his skin is for a baby... It has to be his skincare!
I also use the balm on my face regularly and I get compliments on how good my skin is for 40. Again, we keep it simple and natural.
Can't recommend kawakawa highly enough for everything from proactive to cure.
I've been using the cleansing bar on my dry pregnancy skin and on my toddler since he was a newborn. It's all I use on my children. Beautiful for sensitive baby skin. I've just purchased more for our newest baby. We're always soft and glowing!
My dry skin is loving this cleansing bar, which alongside the kawakawa balm that I absolutely swear by, has done wonders with the (what I suspect is) inverse psoriasis I suffer from, particularly during the hotter summer months.
Am also experimenting with it as a facial cleanser, as a much more affordable and less processed alternative to what I've been using up until now.
Five months in and this face soap is still going strong! It's finally falling to bits but it's doing the job regardless, and I'm confident it would've lasted a lot longer too if I hadn't kept it in a soggy, crowded soap dish in the shower for 3.5 of those 5 months (don't move to a new flat and then procrastinate putting up a shower shelf for a quarter of your tenancy folks!).
I've always had oily skin but the past few years in Ōtautahi have changed it to also being prone to horrible flaky dry patches. I usually prefer oil or cream cleaners and I've never been able to consistently use a soap of any kind on my face before, and while I can't say this one is foolproof for me, I use it once a day and make an effort not to lather til I'm squeaky clean, and I've found it an easy, calming cleanser. It's honestly a delightful product, and I love that it leaves my face feeling soft and sweet.
I'd forgotten how great this natural soap was. My skin was flared up from trying other 'natural' products. 1 week of reverting back to using this soap bar & my skin calmed & is less oily again. No strong fragrance too which I love with my sensitive skin.

I am really liking using this soap in my new daily routine. Using with the oil each night I’m starting to gradually notice a nice shine on my face . I am so sold on the products that I’m purchasing and getting the results I hoped for.
Love this bar. I wanted to move away from plastics dominating my skincare routine. This bar is gentle enough to use on my face without being overly drying. Still a bit dryer than my normal cleanser so using up my hydrating toner (which I couldn’t use with my previous cleanser). Balances out well and skin feels clean. Will see how my skin adjusts over time. I only use it when I shower which isn’t daily.
