Our Kawakawa Balm was created specifically to help heal the skin of a little girl with extreme eczema. But the same qualities that make it an amazing support for skin with eczema also make it helpful for many other skin conditions, for skin healing, and for skin health in general.
What helps skin heal?
Staying moisturised.
Kawakawa Healing Balm prevents skin from drying out while it heals, which also is known to reduce scarring, and prevent itching that may provoke damage to the skin through scratching in search of relief.
Why use Kawakawa Healing Balm? Our best selling Kawakawa Healing Balm contains natural plant butters and oils and Vitamin E, which all help nourish and hydrate the skin naturally. You can apply Kawakawa Healing Balm liberally to a healing wound, as a layer of lush natural oils and butters is a brilliant substitute for a natural skin barrier while your skin heals.
Keeping the skin clean and warm.
You can wash your healing wound daily with mild soap and apply a dry soft bandage to help keep the area warm and protected.
Try our Kawakawa Cleansing Bar with chlorophyll. It's gentle on skin (and safe for use on skin prone to eczema) and contains Kawakawa and chlorophyll which both provide anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties to reduce infection risks and calm irritation, and antioxidants which act to protect skin from damage. Chlorophyll promotes skin repair by stimulating the growth of new tissue and is often used to treat wounds, burns, and acne.
Avoid Irritants.
Many antiseptic solutions, including iodine and hydrogen peroxide, don’t just kill germs – they can also damage the skin cells that repair a wound, so repeated use on clean, minor cuts may actually slow healing rather than help it. (1)
Why use Kawakawa Healing Balm? Our Kawakawa Healing Balm is designed for the most sensitive skin and is specifically formulated to be safe for people with eczema, psoriasis and other skin sensitivities. Frankie's Kawakawa Healing Balm has NO preservatives or nasty synthetic ingredients. No parabens, SLS, coal tar colourants. Nothing you won't find in nature.
Eat well & look after your general health.
A well supported body can heal faster. You can help your body do its work well by getting enough sleep, drinking plenty of clean water (water helps transport nutrients to the wound) and targeting specific nutrients in your diet - like fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin C which is required for collagen production, proteins with the amino acids that are essential for tissue repair, and Vitamin A and zinc to support immune function and skin regeneration.
Why is Kawakawa Healing Balm great for skin health & healing?
As well as the skin nourishing butters and oils in Frankie's Kawakawa Healing Balm, our pure native Kawakawa Extracts contributes anti-inflammatories, antifungal, antibacterial and antiseptic properties to your skin healing journey. These are extremely important regardless of whether you are using the Kawakawa Balm for eczema or psoriasis, or to help a wound heal with minimal scarring.
Kawakawa even contains Myristicin, an analgesic 'pain-blocking' substance which "blocks certain nerve impulses", meaning you may feel less pain during the healing of your wound, or from your eczema.
The Kawakawa Extracts in our Kawakawa Balm are very high in antioxidants "which act as free radical scavengers, and boost skin cell health dramatically."
The diayangambin in our Kawakawa Extract has even been shown to have anti-inflammatory and immuno-suppressant effects, which means it can help some people with anti-immune disorders like rheumatism and psoriasis.
